Diabetes Voice Online - Articles - Detect-2: early detection of type 2 diabetes and IGT
Type 2 diabetes has reached pandemic levels, with the global number of people with the condition predicted to exceed 330 million by 2025. Overall, at least 50% of those with diabetes presently do not know that they have the condition. In developing countries the proportion with undiagnosed diabetes is considerably higher. At the time of clinical diagnosis, every second person with diabetes has already developed one or more micro- or macrovascular complications. If preventative care is to be fully effective, then one condition of this is that diagnosis of diabetes and the glucose intolerance that precedes it is achieved earlier.

Systems Biology at PNNL - Advanced Proteomics and Metabolomics: Type 2 Diabetes and Pre-Diabetes
In this five-year project, we are applying advanced proteomic and metabolomic nanoflow liquid chromatography-Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FTICR) mass spectrometry technologies in the study of both plasma and blood cells from individuals with normal glucose tolerance (NGT), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), and recently diagnosed type 2 diabetes (T2DM). The overall approach endeavors to advance the study of Type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes by identifying biomarkers at the level of the proteome and metabolome that are predictive of Type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes in vivo.

Impaired Glucose Tolerance - International Diabetes Federation - IDF
The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) is the only global advocate for the more than 230 million people with diabetes, their families, and their healthcare providers. IDF is an alliance of over 190 diabetes associations in more than 150 countries. The mission of IDF is to promote diabetes care, prevention and a cure worldwide. It does this through education for people with diabetes and healthcare professionals, public awareness campaigns and the promotion of the free exchange of diabetes knowledge. IDF is a non-governmental organization in official relations with the World Health Organization (WHO) for over 50 years.
